The ASA 1 is an active splitter with DC power distribution. Not only does the ASA 1 allow sharing of antennas for multiple receivers, it provides the DC power each receiver requires through the RF (antenna) cable. This allows you to clean up your rack installation dramatically. As the core of Sennheiser's antenna splitters, it allows multiple receivers to share a single pair of antennas. Without the ASA 1, you run the risk of potenital RF noise pollution from other equipment, as well as dealing with an unsightly "antenna farm." This active splitter is wideband for the UHF range, typically eliminating the need for antenna boosters.
